Hello everyone,
I have been a pharmacy technician for years and it constantly amazes how few people are aware of saving opportunities, so I would like to take this opportunity to share with you some tricks and tips. To begin with if you have commercial insurance and you take a brand medication go to the medications website (it is typically the www. "name of drug" . com) and then there will be a separate tab for savings/assistance. Once you sign up for the savings you will typically receive a virtual card via email/text/download. After this has been received you will be able to use this in conjunction with your commercial insurance, however if you have government/federal/state insurance (medicaid and medicare) these are not applicable (except for special instances). Please be aware that these cards can be found with brand pills, birth controls, insulin/injections, inhalers and more! If you however have one of the insurances that are not applicable there are hundreds of discount websites that will provide extensive savings on you medications without using any insurance, some example are goodrx.com, singlecare.com, wellrx.com, etc. On these sites you simply type in your drugs name and they will give you a rough estimation of your new prices. One thing to be aware is that these estimations are simply that and it should be understood that they are not guaranteed. If you find yourself taking a common medication such as for blood pressure/cholesterol/fluid/acid etc. walmart may be a good option because many of these items are only ten to twenty dollars for a ninety day supply so it is definitely advisable to price shop. Alright these are just some simple tips for now if this blog gets any activity I will make a more detailed post with advice regarding prior authorizations and saving opportunities among other things, thanks for the read, be well!
